Tia and Louie

For those of you wondering if I am still breeding dogs, make no mistake, as long as I am able I will continue to breed Labrador retrievers, they are my passion. One of my greatest joys in life is sorting through pedigrees and striving to put together the best of the best. As I have grown older I have had a bit of a paradigm shift from choosing the best proven sires in the field trial world to trying to predict the next crop of select sires and being a head of the breeding curve.

When my late friend and mentor Gunther Rahnefeld was selecting a sire for his National Champion "Ginger" (Yankee Independence) he selected "Willie" (Aces High III) who had just turned two and was the top Derby dog in 1985. That breeding produced two National Champions, Call Me Mister Independence and Free Trade. His selection criteria were not related to the accumulation of titles, but to genetics. I think that is a lesson for all.

My female Tia is a very special dog to me. She is out of my great bitch Sunny and Bobby Lee's great male Jammer. When I decided to breed Sunny to Jammer, Jammer was an unknown quantity and had never been bred before. However, I loved his pedigree and his prowess in the field evidenced his ancestors traits. I don't think I have seen any dogs that was a better marker than Jammer and I sometimes marveled at his intelligence.

Tia is a very 'typey' bitch. By that I mean her conformation is very correct, following the breed standard to a tee. She is very stylish in both the water and on land. She is a great marker and is extremely intelligent. Her attitude is as sound as her conformation, she loves to train and loves work. I took her to Alberta waterfowl hunting when she was just a year old and she was hitting geese like a linebacker, with no hesitation. She has tons of courage and is up for anything.

In considering who I could breed Tia to, I was visiting with Marcy Wright of Horsetooth Retriever Kennels and she was describing the strengths of Louie to me. Louie's owners, Naomi and Tyler Evans, had bred their bitch Lime (Dirt road Twist QAA) to Floyd (2XNFC 2XNFTCH Truline's Just Floyd) and Louie was the product of that breeding. I was aware of Louie's achievements and knew he was a precocious young dog who was a National Derby Finalist in the 2025 National Derby Championship in Sedalia. As Marcy talked her comments confirmed to me that Louie would be good match for Tia.

I have seldom had a breeding go as smoothly as this one. Everything progressed without a hitch as if indeed it were a match made in heaven.

Tia is due around August 25, and there should be blacks and yellows in the litter. If you are looking for a talented dog for field trials, hunt tests , or a quality companion, please consider these pups. These pups will be good ones.

Chipper × Sunny

7 black female puppies whelped November 22, 2025

Revilo Kennels is thrilled to announce a standout breeding between Prairie Wind’s Chipper Jones (Chipper) and Revilo’s Night to Day (Sunny). This pairing brings together some of the strongest and most influential Field Trial genetics in North America today.

Seven healthy black female puppies were whelped on November 22, 2025.

Chipper is a promising young dog out of FC AFC Rimfire's Once Inna Blue Moon (Blue) and FC AFC Seaside's Smarty Jones (Smarty)—both National Finalists in 2021. He comes from a proven producing sire line and a talented first litter from Smarty.

Sunny is the daughter of FC AFC Moody’s Nitz (Smitty) and Revilo’s Boogie Nights (Boo), a beloved producer and exceptional hunting dog known for her remarkable abilities—including a 600+ yard rooster pheasant retrieve. Her pedigree also traces back to Revilo’s own Y2K Microchip (Mike).

This breeding represents thoughtful, intentional linebreeding designed to preserve the influence of some of the greatest producers in Field Trial history. By selecting a talented young sire like Chipper—evaluated and developed with the expertise of Horsetooth Retrievers—we aim to capture genetic strength at its peak.

If you're looking for a talented Labrador with exceptional potential, these puppies offer a rare combination of genetics, performance, and heritage. We’re confident you’ll be thrilled with a pup from this litter.

Sunny x Quinn (pedigree)

Quinn and Sunny were whelped a day apart, three years ago this past November right here at our kennel. It has been a delight to watch them grow and develop into the fine adults that they are now.

Quinn is owned by my son Wade and definitely takes after his sire Deke in looks and talent. He is about 75 lbs and is a very handsome boy. His focus on birds is astounding coupled with outstanding eyesight that makes him a tremendous marking do. He has a great deal of drive which translates into courage in the water and as a young dog was doing some impressive water work at under a year of age. He uses his size and strength to make short work on crippled, large Canada Geese and has no trouble with them. In the house or any time he's not in the field he is very quiet and Wade describes him as the most tractable dog that he has ever been around. That is saying something because Wade has been around a few being raised with dogs since he was a toddler.

Sunny lives here at our kennel and is my pride and joy - I just love her. She is a beautiful 65 pound yellow who hasher mother's (Boo) sweet temperament. Like Quinn she has an unstoppable work ethic and will train all day every day. She possesses tons of drive and also loves the water. She too has great eyes and marks well. I don't think I have ever owned a more athletic dog than Sunny and would describe her as poetry in motion when she moves and does she ever move. She loves attention and is a very affectionate dog with a strong desire to please and be a team player.

It is exciting to combine Boo (Revilo's Boogie Nights) and Elle's (Revilo's Elle on Wheels) lines. Both of these dams have been excellent producers for us. This combination has allowed us to tie into some of our old bloodlines through such dogs as, FTCH AFTCH Revilo's Cutting Edge, FTCH AFTCH Revilo's Y2K Microchip, and FTCH Revilo's At Full Tilt CD. In addition, FC AFC Tartan Prime Time is found on Quinn's top side and on Sunny's bottom side. We have had some success on doubling up on him in our lines.

We are anxious to get this litter on the ground and watch these pups live up to our expectations. If you are looking for a sound prospect with the traits of intelligence, looks and temperament then give these ones a look.
